Ron and Janet were typical new Canadians, arriving in the country in 1983, and looking to a create a life of opportunity for themselves and eventually their children. Having arrived at a time when it was difficult to acquire employment in their fields of study, Ron settled for a labourer job while Janet stayed at home.
